There’s no doubt that Anson County cares about its young children!
This is evident by the community support received thus far for the
“Barn Blast.” Over $16,000 has been pledged in sponsorships from
businesses and individuals thus far.
Poisson, Poisson & Bower, PLLC, a local law firm is the top-level
sponsor of the “Barn Blast.” Fred Poisson, Jr., believes early literacy
is a great cause and says he’s happy to donate to this project. He
encourages other businesses to support this project as well. When asked
why he supports this project, Fred Poisson, Jr. stated, “My father
tutored kids after school for a number of years when he first came to
Wadesboro. We believe that reading to children at an early age
contributes to their success down the road in school. If they are read
to early and often, they will be better equipped to do well in school.”
The Barn Blast, scheduled for Thursday, January 25, is the
first fundraiser hosted by Anson County Partnership for Children. All
proceeds from the event will benefit the Dolly Parton’s Imagination
Library. The Imagination Library, initiated by Country & Western
legend Dolly Parton, mails one book per month to registered youngsters
in Anson County at no cost to the parents – thus offering each child a
chance to build his/her own personal library. The program in Anson
County is being underwritten by the Partnership and the Wadesboro
Rotary Club. The Barn Blast will also feature a live auction
of several major donated items including: LASIK surgery for both eyes
(a $4,000 value donated by Dr. Ivan Mac of Metrolina Eye Associates); a
framed oil painting by Anson County artist Barry Stebbing entitled
“Blue Ridge in Spring” and a signed copy of the book in which the
painting is featured, Painting Across America (a $1000+ value donated
by Barry and Saundra Stebbing); and a half day guided Quail Hunt for
two including an overnight stay and dinner at Buchanan Shoals Hunting
Preserve in Old Sneedsborough (a $600+ value donated by Jason Kiker,
Buchanon Shoals Owner); and a John Deere Leaf Blower (a $200+ value
donated by Martin Bros.). You must be present to bid on these items, so
buy your tickets now. Other sponsors include: Anson Community
Hospital, CMH Flooring, Leavitt Funeral Home, Progress Energy, RBC
Centura, Carolina By-Products, Howard Lisk, Pee Dee Electric, Plank
Road Realty, Wal-Mart, Anson Farm & Garden, Anson Real Estate &
Insurance, Bad*censored*, BB&T, Brown Creek Animal Hospital,

(ages 0-5) for one year. To reserve your ticket, call the Partnership
